TPON Announcement Regarding the New Worlds October 27th Convention

October 21, 2007

n solidarity with the victims of the latest bombing and their loved ones, and out of concern for everyone's safety, the Order of the Lion has decided that TPON should not participate in the scheduled convention next Saturday.

We also wish to be removed from the roster of NWA groups participating in the convention.

TPON's officers would like to thank those inside and outside the organization who have contributed so much to TPON's preparations for the con.

We are hopeful that the work that was already started will not go to waste as we will find other occasions to use them to promote CS Lewis' legacy.

However, we believe that it is our responsibility to assure the safety of all concerned, and to allow more time for healing for the victims of this tragedy.

Individual TPON members who wish to attend the convention may do so at their own discretion but let it be emphasized that TPON, as an organization, is not participating in the event.

We hope our members and our partners in planning this endeavor understand our reasons for this decision, which was reached after much careful consultation. .

"C.S. Lewis Remembered" is NOW AVAILABLE

June 20, 2007

C.S. Lewis Remembered

ost people know C. S. Lewis through his writings, but in his lifetime he was first and foremost a teacher. Now those who were influenced by what they learned from his teaching offer a unique view of one of the most influential Christian writers of all time.

What was it like to study under C. S. Lewis when he taught at Oxford and Cambridge? How did his influence and teaching create a legacy that has influenced educators since? C. S. Lewis Remembered is a collection of interviews and essays that offer personal perspectives on Lewis the teacher and Lewis the man. These recollections portray him in all his humanity: both the irascibility and the brilliance, both the ferocity of his intellectual precision and the eagerness of his curiosity.

In Memoriam: A Friend Leaves the Shadowlands

April 20, 2007

icky, we all miss you so much already. The constant reassuring presence, the grinning face ready to dish out either sound advice or witty quip (so you never know what to expect), and simply the way you cheer everyone up just by being in the room. We're thankful, so many among us at TPON were touched by your life. We celebrate that life now, even as we grieve our loss. For the moment we've lost the company of a really good friend but we look forward to a reunion soon, when the world is set to right. Until then, Ricky, Godspeed. See you soon.

And for us this is the end of all stories . . . All their life in this world and all their adventures . . . had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.

Be it a dissertation on Middle Eastern influences in Lewis' work, an article on the child actors in the running to play Prince Caspian, or a fun game for kids aged 7-17, it's all welcome. If you can't think of anything that you want to see printed in the newsletter, then maybe you would like to talk about regular Narnian stuff, like the Narnia games, the soundtrack, references in other books, movies and TV series, and the serendipity of hearing someone sing Alanis Morrisette's Wunderkind on the MRT yesterday.

Send your contributions to Francis at king_rilian@yahoo.com.
Deadline of all contributions is on May 24, 2006 (Wednesday).

ouglas Gresham, the stepson of C.S. Lewis, finally wrote back to us and answered our questions. Here is the exact e-mail to the Order.

Q. How was it like to grow up with CS Lewis?
A. It was just my childhood, and I have nothing to compare it with so that is a very difficult question. In all it was a time of great learning and prvilege.

Q. If you can change parts of the books, what would you change?
A. Not one word!

Q. What's your favorite among the seven books?
A. Which ever one I am Reading when somebody asks that question.:-)

Q. When is your birthday?
A. November 10th.

Q. What character can you easily identify with yourself?
A. Lots of them in part, but perhaps Shasta in The Horse and His Boy the most.

Q. What's the most irritating comment you get from Narnian fans?
A. I never have been really irritated by any of them.

Q. What's your work?
A. I am the Director of Rathvinden Ministries, the Creative and artistic Director of the C.S.Lewis Company, and Co-Producer of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe movie.

Q. Do you feel you have to follow in your stepfather's footsteps?
A. I don't feel that I have to but I would love to be able to.

Q. Will you go to the Philippines if we ask you?
A. If you pay air fares and my accommodation costs for me and my wife I would love to.

Q. How active are the fans in other countries, especially in Asia?
A. Reasonably so in Asia, but more so in America and Australia , I expect things will get more active after this movie though.

Q. Into what languages has Narnia been translated?
A. I don't have the list handy but there are 42 of them so far.

Q. What's the weirdest question ever asked to you?
A. Wow, I can't really remember , but I have had some pretty weird ones over the years.

Q. Are you friends with Christopher Tolkien
A. No we are not in contact.

Q. Aside from Narnia, what's your favorite book?
A. "Ingathering" by Zenna Henderson.

Q. What's your opinion about the portrayal of Lewis and you in Shadowlands?
A. "The portrayal of me was very good but Jack's role as done by Tony Hopkins was not in the least like Jack.

Q. Do you like Turkish Delight?
A. Very much.

Q. Do you love us? (hehe)
A. Yes of course I have many friends in the Philippines whom I love and respect.

Interviewer: And by the way, we all listened to Haven Today during your interview with Charles Norris. the interview was very enlightening. :)
A. I enjoyed that one.

Blessings,
Douglas.
